Hopefully my recent upload of Ascension gives some closure to my endless hours of looking at the "golden ages of art" this period also included a big upsurge in scientific thought.....think gravity, think constellations and the rotation of the planets around the sun instead of around earth, HERESY, cried the church. As it turned out the scientists were right we weren't at the center of our universe. I think that something can be learned from observing art history. The usage of color to evoke emotion, symbols which evoke emotions, and placement of objects in the early Renaissance paintings, is fascinating. It is interesting to see the world through the eyes of artists, who lived that period and reflected it. Artists are usually on the cutting edge of current trends of thought. They tend to reflect society through the political and economical state of affairs at the time. It's their observations and the way in which they do this is what makes it so interesting.
The title of Ascension came easily as the dogs seemed to hesitate at some new age door ascending to another world place maybe not heaven but again, possibly. Where angels, represented by the crows who also sport halos are guides or protectors. This piece was exploratory because I had in mind the mood that I wanted to set just not how to do it. That is typical of me because I tend to let the process lead me through. The journey was a little difficult and I can see the hesitancy in the work. I like it, but I also think it needs to mature some. Again the subject matter goes back to animals in this case dogs in particular.
