INSTALLATIONS

If anyone has some thoughts on this I would appreciate input. A while back I was wondering about installations and why artists do them. I asked a bunch of artists about what they thought. When I first started thinking about them I thought they were a colossal waste of time and money a sort of indulgence on the artist's part. But as I talked to people I began to understand somewhat although I'm not completely convinced. An artist friend pointed out to me that my assemblages where small installations which technically is true but I get money for those little things, even though you could call them self indulgent, which they are. Again, thinking about self indulgence, if an artist didn't have to worry about the cost and didn't have to make money,  then I suppose you could do more aestoteric pieces where you had total control over the environment and what was being said by your art. My conclusion was that for now I am interested in doing an installation but one that was made of smaller components which are for sale.

Okay pretty much finished just added a few details but I feel like I'm definitely not there (where "that" is, has not been revealed......) that is a mystery still.

THE WALL

I think I mentioned in an earlier post that I was working on a little more substance for my backgrounds. I thought that I should get more detailed, so sky and walls for a while until I get more control over my painting. Also I'm really wanting to pursue story lines which I run on at length in my head while doing a series of paintings anyway, so I just want that part of my narrative to be more obvious. I had eye surgery last week and I was a little out of sorts for a few days but decided that Sunday was the target day for getting over myself and getting back to work. I finished my cat for the Cat Care Society and started this piece and it's coming along fairly well......so far lol.

Well kitty is clamped, glued and screwed and is just sitting waiting to dry.

MORE SHOTS OF THE STUDIO

Starting working in the studio so decided to take a few more shots as we begin to sort out our space and begin a routine of working down here. It feels a little awkward still but I expect that to go away pretty soon as it becomes routine.

NEW PROJECT

I'm working on a different method for backgrounds on my work. I would like to put it into some context instead of just a colorful background. For starters I am going towards walls and openings......

THE WHOLE THROUGH THE KAT

Okay, I know how to spell both hole and cat but just decided to make it interesting. Here's how it went, first I traced the tube on his side, then selected the right dremel cutting tool, well this part was a crap shoot and lucky guess.

It took me a fair amount of time because my dremel wasn't fully charged and the fiberglass was differing thicknesses, which caused me the most problems. The hole wasn't quite big enough so I had to charge my battery for 2 hours before I could do anything which put me mid afternoon. I'm keeping a close eye on time because a snow storm and very cold temps are on the way and I want to finish.  

Back outside with one hole cut, I'm thinking now how do I get a hole on the other side whichneeds to be fairly accurate because my tube is cv pipe with no forgiveness. I decided to trace from the inside of the pipe through the cat then drill four points through the cat on the inside to outside. Then I trace my pipe between the holes. After I that added about a 1/2 inch all the way around so I wouldn't have the super tight fit like the other side.

Worked beautifully and to my utter amazement I actually got the length of the pipe within a 1/2 inch on both sides sticking out. That's fine because I'm securing  with clay now I need to start my diorama in the pipe. When that's finished I will be painting the cat......finally. BTW look outside that's today, it did arrive as scheduled.

KAT COMING ALONG

My cat is coming along here are the final houses and then all of them on the cat's back. Next will be the tube through his mid section with another diorama inside his then all that's left that's big, is painting him and adding a few detail touches.

TAILS OF THE PAINTED CAT

Starting working on my cat in ernest last week and I have already changed my original design. Right now I'm trying to decide how I'm going to paint him and think I have a solution for the cylinder going through the center of the cat which will house a small diorama. My second house is done and I'm starting the third.

Hannibal is an opportunist if nothing else, Zoe never did make a treat opportunity for herself like Hanni does. Here's how it goes: small arf......pause......another small low pitched arf.......I get up go over to him, make him pick it up and I give him a treat, see how well trained I am! First he brought me this

I lost interest and he had this sitting in front of him for a while, ultimately he got the treat.
